STANDARD ECONOMY ADVENTURE TOUR PACKAGE

A 1-day Wasini Island Dhow Trip is a fantastic way to explore the beautiful coastal waters off the coast of Kenya, experience marine life, and discover the rich culture of Wasini Island. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect:

Departure from Mombasa/Diani:

  • The day starts early, usually around 7:00 AM, with pick-up from your hotel or accommodation in Mombasa or Diani. The drive to the Wasini Island dhow departure point (typically from Shimoni village) takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Arrival and Briefing:

  • Upon arrival in Shimoni, you’ll board a traditional dhow boat for your day trip. The dhows are traditional wooden boats, and the excursion will take you on a scenic cruise through the Indian Ocean to Wasini Island.

Snorkeling and Dolphin Watching:

  • Dolphin Watching: As the dhow sails along the coast, you’ll have the chance to spot dolphins in their natural habitat. Wasini Island and the nearby waters are known for frequent dolphin sightings, including bottlenose dolphins and spinner dolphins.
  • Snorkeling: After the dolphin watching, you’ll stop at one of the local coral reefs for snorkeling. The waters here are clear, and the reefs are home to a wide variety of marine life, including colorful tropical fish, sea turtles, and sometimes even rays and reef sharks. Snorkeling gear is typically provided.

Wasini Island Visit:

  • After the marine activities, the dhow will dock at Wasini Island, where you can explore the small, peaceful island. You’ll learn about the island’s history, culture, and way of life, and have the chance to interact with the local community.
  • There may also be an opportunity to visit Shimoni Caves, which historically served as a slave holding area during the colonial era.

Lunch:

  • Lunch is typically included in the excursion and is served on the island. You’ll enjoy a seafood feast with freshly prepared local dishes, such as grilled fish, lobster, and swahili-style rice. Vegetarian options are also available.

Return to Mombasa/Diani:

  • After enjoying lunch and some relaxation on the island, you’ll head back to the dhow for the return journey to Shimoni, followed by the drive back to your accommodation.
  • You’ll typically arrive back in Mombasa or Diani in the late afternoon (around 4:00 to 5:00 PM).

This day trip offers a fantastic mix of marine life, cultural exploration, and relaxation, making it ideal for those who want to experience the beauty of Kenya’s coastline in a single day!
