A 2-day safari combining Tsavo East National Park and Salt Lick Game Sanctuary offers a unique and diverse experience, from large herds of elephants in Tsavo to spectacular views of wildlife at Salt Lick. Here’s what to expect on your trip:

Day 1: Tsavo East National Park

Morning Arrival and Game Drive

  • Elephant Viewing: Tsavo East is famous for its large populations of elephants. You’ll likely see them in herds, sometimes coated with the park’s distinctive red dust, as they bathe and play.
  • Aruba Dam: A key wildlife hotspot where you can see elephants, buffaloes, and other animals coming to drink. If you’re lucky, you might even spot predators like lions and cheetahs here.
  • Game Drives in Tsavo East: A full day of safari with opportunities to spot more wildlife like lions, cheetahs, zebras, and various antelope species. The wide-open savannahs of Tsavo provide excellent visibility for spotting large herds and predators.

Afternoon

  • Lunch and Relaxation: Enjoy lunch at your lodge or camp before continuing your game drives. You can often enjoy meals with beautiful views of the savannah or waterholes where wildlife gather.
  • Evening Game Drive: A late afternoon or evening drive in Tsavo East will allow you to witness the stunning landscapes as the sun sets, creating ideal conditions for spotting nocturnal animals and predators on the prowl.

Overnight: Tsavo East Accommodation

Stay overnight at one of the lodges or camps in Tsavo East, such as Voi Wildlife Lodge or Sentrim Tsavo, for a comfortable night under the stars.


Day 2: Salt Lick Game Sanctuary

Morning Transfer to Salt Lick

  • Scenic Drive to Salt Lick: After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to the Salt Lick Game Sanctuary, which is about 2 to 3 hours from Tsavo East. This private sanctuary offers an entirely different experience with its unique architecture and excellent wildlife sightings.
  • Check-in to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary: The sanctuary is famous for its elevated, luxurious lodges such as Salt Lick Safari Lodge, which are built on stilts overlooking waterholes, offering an incredible view of animals from your room or the viewing decks.

Morning Game Drive at Salt Lick

  • Game Viewing: Salt Lick offers an array of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, and various bird species. The animals often come to the waterholes, providing excellent photo opportunities.
  • Predator Sightings: This sanctuary is known for its high chances of seeing predators, such as lions and leopards, particularly at dawn and dusk.

Lunch and Afternoon Relaxation

  • Lunch at Salt Lick Lodge: Enjoy lunch at the lodge, often with spectacular views of wildlife at the waterholes.
  • Relaxation or Optional Activities: You can choose to relax in the lodge or enjoy a guided walking safari, where you can get closer to the wildlife and learn about the flora and fauna from local experts.

Afternoon Game Drive and Departure

  • Final Game Drive: Embark on another game drive in the afternoon or early evening around the Salt Lick Sanctuary. With its proximity to Taita Hills, you may spot even more animals as they come out to drink before nightfall.
  • Departure: In the late afternoon, after a day of wildlife viewing, you’ll head back to your starting point or proceed to your next destination.

Day 1: Mombasa – Tsavo East

Early morning drive to Tsavo East National Park. Commence the morning  game drive through this largest park, with a chance to spot herds of Red Elephants, Lions, Giraffes, Zebras, Gazelles, Buffaloes, Leopard, Waterbucks, Impalas and different bird species. Have lunch at Voi Wildlife Lodge or Shasha camp. After lunch, drive to Saltlick game lodge. Make gamedrive  and check in at Sarova Saltlick Lodge. Dinner and overnight at the sarova Saltlick lodge.

Day 2: Saltlick – Mombasa

After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive in the sanctuary. Make gamedrive till time for lunch. Have lunch at Sarova Saltlick Lodge. After lunch, check out of the lodge and drive back to your coastal hotel, arriving in the evening.
